    Hawaii Recreation & Parks Society Pickleball Tournament Rules

    Site: Manoa Valley District Park

    Date: Sunday, May 5, 2024

    Time: 7:45am Registration opens, 8:30am Games begin

    Cost: $50/person ($5 discount for Oahu Pickleball Association Members)

     Sportsmanship:

    The Hawaii Recreation & Parks Society (HRPS) is dedicated to providing a safe and fun environment.   All participants should keep this in mind when becoming involved.  Although the games may become intense, you still can be competitive while maintaining good sportsmanship.  Any behavior deemed unacceptable by the HRPS staff may result in suspension and/or ejection from a game/tournament.  Remember that this is for fun.

     Equipment:

    ·            HRPS will provide nets and balls

    ·            Players bring your own

    o   Paddles

    o   Chairs will be available, but you may want to bring your own just in case.

    o   Hydration (Drinking water fountain is available for refilling)

    ·            Food Concession is available to purchase food and drinks.

     Event Divisions:

    ·         Players will register with rating levels (2.0-5.0) and age

    ·         Players will be placed in divisions to participate in Blind Pool Play.  The Tournament Director reserves the right to assign/re-assign the player at their discretion.

    Tournament Format

    Blind Pool Play:

    ·         Team members will be selected at random by Tournament Director for each game that is played.

    ·         Players will have 2 minutes to report to the Tournament table after their name is called.  Players will receive instructions and stand by until assigned to a court.

    ·         Teams are asked to check-in with their court monitor prior to the end of the previous game

    ·         Players will be allowed to warm up before getting on the court.  No warm up time when on the court.

    ·         Games are played to 11 points (No winning by 2, first to 11 points)

    ·         Points will be recorded as the score of the game.  No Win/Loss records, just points.

    o   Team A finishes game with 11 points = 11 points will be awarded to each individual on Team A

    o   Team B finishes game with 8 points = 8 points will be awarded to each individual on Team B

     Scoring:

    ·         Serve to score

    ·         A point is scored if the returning team fails to return the ball or if the returning team commits a fault

    ·         Teams playing will make their own calls on faults.  Honesty and Integrity – please respect each other.

    ·         Court Monitors at each court to assist with court assignments and queue of next players

    ·         Questions, requests, disputes can be made to and decided by the Tournament Director.

    Registration Deadline:

    ·         Deadline to register will be by Tuesday, April 26, 2024.   All registrations accepted on HRPS website.

    ·         Cancellations made before April 26, 2024, will be given a full refund within 1-2 weeks.

    ·         Cancellations made after April 26, 2024, will result in 50% refund.
